As part of my commitment to corporate social responsibility I donate each year to at least two charities or organisations working to improve the lives of their local community; one New Zealand based and one overseas organisation.
This year I have chosen Kids Can who are a New Zealand Charitable Trust "dedicated to ensuring all Kiwi kids affected by poverty can look forward to a brighter future."
For the overseas organisation I've chosen Kiva which "is a non-profit organisation with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty." Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions," This enables me to help many people improve their lives through obtaining access to microfinance once the funding has been repaid it can be used to help more people. Also given the current crisis in the Horn of Africa, I've also chosen to donate an addtional amount this year to UNICEF to help them with their relief efforts.
